Baljit Ubhey OBE joined London in October 2013 from Thames and Chiltern CPS, where she was CCP. She has 21 years of experience in the CPS and has presided over high profile cases including the conviction last year of seven men who were part of a child sexual exploitation grooming gang in Oxford. Also in 2013 she oversaw the first ever ‘cash for crash’ prosecution, and is the national hate crime champion within the CPS.
Baljit began her CPS career as a Legal Trainee in November 1992 before progressing to a Senior Crown Prosecutor in CPS London in 1994. Three years later in 1997 she took up an Advisor role in CPS Policy Directorate representing the service both nationally and internationally on changes in legislation and advice to the Law Officers, Director of Public Prosecutions and Home Office.
During her tenure with Policy Directorate, Baljit also undertook the role of Diversity Manager, developing our race equality strategy and setting up the Equality and Diversity Unit. In May 2004 Baljit was appointed CCP for Thames Valley, later becoming CCP for Thames and Chiltern in 2011.
Baljit will be speaking on the Sexual assault: the questions you’ve never had the chance to ask on Saturday at 4.3pm.
