Ashley Stephen

Ashley Stephen is an activist and the Co-founder of Disabled Survivors Unite, a user-led organisation creating change for disabled survivors of abuse and sexual violence. Ashley’s work focuses on campaigning and running The (re)Storytellers Project for DSU, a project that allows disabled survivors to share their stories anonymously. Ashley also regularly speaks at events on issues affecting disabled survivors and has given evidence on this at a hearing in the European Parliament. While visiting London in 2013, Ashley was drugged and raped by a stranger. They did not receive proper support from services or the police, who did not know what to do with an autistic rape victim. In a desire to prevent this from happening to others, The (re)Storytellers Project came into existence and Disabled Survivors Unite was borne.
